Acquisition to business-as-usual for UK-wide franchise group in double quick time with Microsoft Cloud

Metro Rod establish entirely new, secure, scalable, cloud based IT infrastructure with Polymorph following acquisition by Franchise Brands plc. Resulting in providing more flexible IT services to their entire franchise network.

Challenge

Metro Rod was acquired by Franchise Brands early last year, which also included businesses such as Chips Away, Oven Clean and Barking Mad in the Franchise Brands group.

Prior to the acquisition Metro Rod had been part of an organisation Enserve who were responsible for all their IT support and infrastructure. Following the acquisition, Metro Rod wanted better control of their business which created a need to move their entire IT infrastructure away from their old supplier who operated using shared services, to a dedicated cloud-based solution.

"The initial challenge was to separate from Enserve" said Colin Rees, Group CIO - Franchise Brands. "We had a fixed timeline of being off their system and running separately. We didn’t want to build a data centre and have all of the costs associated with running our own IT hardware".

Solution

Metro Rod chose Polymorph, based in Runcorn, Cheshire, as the partner to take on their challenges.

Within six months Polymorph moved Metro Rod’s whole, complex, IT shared environment from an on-premise infrastructure to an Azure hosted solution as well as:

  • Migrated the entire business to Microsoft Office 365
  • Mail migration from MS Exchange on-premise to Exchange Online for over 300 mailboxes.
  • Migrated applications and data updating coding where necessary.
  • Built a SharePoint and SQL reporting environment.
  • Optimised core bespoke applications to run in an Azure environment
  • Updated all Microsoft office apps from 2010 to 2016
  • Migrated over 5 terabytes of data

Results

The solution that Polymorph has implemented for Metro Rod’s new IT environment now caters for high availability of services and matches the business’s twenty-four by seven requirements via Polymorph’s support and help desk team. Polymorph continue to work with Metro Rod as their outsourced IT provider.
