Lotusphere 2012 - Business. Made Social.

Here is a short round up from the speakers and sessions which took place at Lotusphere 2012 in Florida last week.

IBM announted Lotus Notes and Domino Social Edition
The next release of Lotus Notes and Domino is expected to be released this year. One of the improvements in the client will be what is being referred to as 'embedded experiences' - applications designed to run in the context of where the user currently is - such as surveys, workflow approvals, YouTube videos - which can all be acted upon without having to open new windows. We should also expect some improvements in the Notes Calendar and Mail apps - in particular, in conjunction with IBM Connections, the Inbox has been reinvented and email has evolved to incorporate social analytics, contextual delivery as well as the embedded experiences.

Notes Client via your Browser
If you've ever received an email with a doclink on a PC without Notes installed, you will recognise the frustration of not being able to click the link successfully. However, IBM announced a new feature allowing the full Notes client to be viewable in a web browser. We believe that this will help us to provide more options to our customers when looking to migrate to the cloud. In the past, cloud-based traditional thick-client apps have been somewhat of a stumbling block.

Notes Traveler Enhancements
Expect to see enhancements specifically for Android tablets including better calendar views and presence awareness.

IBM Docs
IBM Docs is a completely cloud-based set of social document editors - word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool - that are focused on the needs of teams to share and improve productivity, both inside and outside the firewall. IBM Docs authors will be able to store documents in IBM SmartCloud Engage and co-edit documents in real time or assign users sections of the document so they can work privately, easing the management of multiple revisions from multiple authors in team-based documents. This is currently in beta release. Click here to try >

Server Enhancements
An all-in-one database management tool (compacts, index updates etc) is expected in 8.5.x as well as SAML support.
